Skardu is well known for its iconic destinations like Shangrila and Deosai, but the real magic often lies in the lesser-known spots — the hidden gems that offer peace, raw beauty, and a deeper connection to nature.

1. Kharpocho Fort
Perched on a hill above the Skardu city, Kharpocho Fort offers panoramic views of the valley and Indus River. Few tourists make the climb, but those who do are rewarded with incredible sunrise and sunset views, along with a taste of ancient history.

2. Soq Valley
Tucked away behind Shigar, Soq Valley is a quiet, green paradise. Surrounded by tall peaks and flowing rivers, it’s an excellent place for picnics, photography, and quiet nature walks far from the crowds.

3. Manthokha Waterfall
Located near Kharmang, this stunning waterfall cascades down a cliff into a lush meadow. It’s a peaceful spot that combines the sound of rushing water with the calm of the countryside — ideal for a day trip.

4. Katpana Lake
Close to the famous Cold Desert but often overlooked, Katpana Lake is a tranquil spot for reflection and relaxation. It’s especially beautiful in the early morning when the mountains are reflected perfectly on the still water.

5. Khaplu Old Town
While Khaplu Palace gets attention, the surrounding old town is equally captivating. With its narrow lanes, wooden houses, and friendly locals, it feels like stepping into a living museum of Baltistani culture.
