Visiting Skardu is not just about stunning landscapes — it’s also about connecting with the local people and culture. The people of Baltistan are warm, respectful, and deeply rooted in tradition. Here are a few tips on local etiquette to help you blend in and show respect during your stay.

1. Dress Modestly
While Skardu is welcoming to tourists, modest clothing is appreciated, especially in villages and religious areas. For both men and women, covering shoulders and knees is a good guideline.

2. Greet with Respect
Locals usually greet with “Assalamu Alaikum” (peace be upon you). A smile and a polite greeting go a long way. Don’t be surprised if you’re warmly welcomed by strangers — hospitality is a key part of the culture.

3. Ask Before Taking Photos
Always ask permission before photographing people, especially women or inside homes and private areas. Many locals are happy to pose, but asking shows respect.

4. Remove Shoes Indoors
When entering homes, mosques, or even some guesthouses, it’s customary to remove your shoes. Look for other people’s shoes at the entrance as a sign.

5. Be Mindful of Religious Practices
During prayer times or religious holidays like Eid, give people space and avoid loud behavior near mosques or gathering places. If you’re invited to a local event, consider it an honor and attend with respect.
